Behind the Scenes of the Trinibago Businesses Instagram Account

So I noticed that a lot of you love the "interview-styled" posts. I quite enjoy them myself too,  because I get to interact with someone new and I also learn. So here's another one! Let's find out a bit more about the Trinbago Businesses Instagram account!

Q. Who's behind the Trinbago Businesses account?

A. Hello there! A liddle about me...My name is Sue Ann and I’m the gal behind the Trinbago Businesses brand. I’ve always found interest in the entrepreneurial world, and I also enjoy mentoring and sharing my knowledge with others.

Q. How long has the trinbago_businesses account been  active?

A. Well Trinbago Businesses is basically a toddler. It’s been active for just a little over 1 year.

Q. What motivated you to start the Instagram account trinbago_businesses?

I just wanted to help our local entrepreneurs in some way. Being an entrepreneur myself , I know the struggle to get your brand out there. It ain’t cheap!

Q. What does your account offer to businesses within Trinidad and Tobago?

A. In addition to offering a free ad space for small business owners to market their products and services, Trinbago Businesses also acts as a business directory for potential customers as well as a networking platform where businesses can interact and support each other.

Q. Is your account exclusive to specific businesses for example only small, businesses?

A. Preference is given to small businesses, but I mean, we try to accommodate anything that is local to Trinidad and Tobago.

Q. What's the overall feedback you've received since you've started the account?

A. So far so good! We have lots of people reaching out to us to have their business promoted or to just tell us thanks for looking out for the “small fries” lol.

Q. What are your future plans for the account?

A. I really  want Trinbago Businesses to develop into a non-profit organization that works with our local entrepreneurs.

Q. What are your overall thoughts on Instagram? Do you think that it levels the playing field for businesses to Market themselves to their customers?

A. I think Instagram is one of the most powerful marketing tools of our era! I mean it’s FREE and easily accessible. Not everyone knows how to use it to their advantage though.

 Q. How important do you think that networking is for a business in Trinidad and Tobago today?

A. Super important! Remember the saying “No man is an island”
I think every business owner should be part of a network TBH.

Q. If an entrepreneur wants their business advertised on your page how can they do so?

A. Send us a DM on the ‘gram.

Q. I saw that your account  received an award. Tell us about this award you won from Bring Your Own Brand TT?

A. BYOBTT has awarded Trinbago Businesses the 2019 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award in recognition of our dedication to Charitable Social Media Support for Local Entrepreneurship. That award really motivated me to turn Trinbago Businesses into something greater.

Q. What are the future goals for the account?

A. For now, we’re just trying to reach our 5000 followers goal by the end of the year

Q. Has the account surpassed your initial expectations?

A. Yes it has. I mean we collected a whole award in our first year of existence.  I honestly didn’t expect that when I started  this account.

Q. What's the most popular types of businesses that approaches your account for example is it local manufacturers of craft products or hair products etc.?

A. Umm we’ve had lots of businesses from the food and beauty industries. Printing businesses, cleaning  services...photographers, landscaping and construction…. The list goes on..

Q. What are some of the main things you've learned so far about businesses while running the account?

A. I’ve learned a lot about marketing and networking and how important they are in making or breaking your business.

Q. In retrospect, what would you have done differently when you first started the account in comparison to now?

A. I haven’t given it thought but I like it just the way it is. It’s doing what I intended it to do.

Q. What advice do you have for someone on how to run a successful Instagram account?

A. I could give lots of tips but I want to encourage people to do their research and really try to figure out how to make Instagram work for THEIR specific brand. The same strategy will not necessarily work for every business.

Q. If you had one piece of advice for a new entrepreneur or a person wanting to become an entrepreneur what would it be?

A. Two pieces of advice I always share with new entrepreneurs:
1.Focus on the goals, not the obstacles.
2.Just be proud of how hard you are working!

Date Night: Staying In Vs. Going Out

This is a short one! Don't forget Valentines Day is soon! I hope you have a great one filled with lots of sweet things. Such a day was created to tempt persons like me to steer away from our diet but i'm stronger than that. You will not defeat me this year sugar! It's quite possible couples may have a date night to celebrate Valentines Day and the restaurants will be filled. If you're into waiting for a table and you like going out much, then do you boo. But I prefer staying in. Basic, but whatever. I just like the whole idea of ordering the same food from your favourite restaurant (that you would buy if you go out) and having it in the comfort of your own home. Put the food on some nice plates, light some candles, throw some rose petals on the table, play some romantic music and have a nice dinner. You see it in the movies all the time and I know it seems corny and cheesy but have you ever had cheesy popcorn? It's a great combo! Ha! I really have t...

Dear Wanderlust, The Series Continues

" Travel makes you modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world, " - Gustav Flaubert. Dear Wanderlust, The series continues....... Meet Kelsey and her beautiful daughter! Last time your eyes were glued to this blog, you read about a daring, young woman who gave her life wings and travelled all the way to Spain from a tiny speck on the world map, known as Trinidad. Now moving there on your own is a whole experience in itself, but what if you moved with your immediate family too? Would that make you feel less homesick with them there? Let's find out in this interview with Kelsey, who moved to Vietnam - from Trinidad -  with her family. Yes, you read that correctly. V I E T N A M. 1. Location: Q. Where are you from originally and where did you move to? A. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago. As far as places to be born, T&T is as good as it gets. However, for a year now, my family and I have...

Just Snap Out Of It

"What's on your mind?" That's the infamous Facebook prompter for users to update their status. But, what's really on your mind? Would Facebook - and all who follow you - really like to know what's on your mind? If you haven't guessed it already, this post is about mental health. I know, it's early in a New Year and this is a heavy topic but it must be talked about. My little random blog is probably not going to make such a drastic change in the world but i'll be sure to discuss real issues and somehow influence you guys in some way to feel comfortable enough to share your thoughts with someone. It's healthy - contrary to the way we were raised, right? In some way, speaking about how you felt was taboo. I remember my first panic attack. I was seventeen and in a classroom on my laptop. We didn't have a scheduled class at that time, so I think I was playing a game. All my classmates were in their worlds doing whatever and I just ...
